Violence is acceptable? How?

In our world, violence has been accepted more and more through media. This goes on through video games, movies, and cartoons. All of these types of media play a factor in how the kids of today will take the act of violence. In Brave New World, I noticed how everyone in Malpais wanted to be beating up John just because one person start it. People influence other people to do things. There is a link that explains in depht the different types of Media Violence.

I'd like to focus more on the video games because many people think that they are just fun and don't cause harm but it has a great influence in kids actitude. They have a rating for a reason. It's not right for a kid that is six years old to be playing Grand Theft Auto, a rated M for mature video game. The kids start thinking it is okay to hit people and before you know it that kid ends up in jail through its malicious acts.

  1. I think video games are an excellent example to show how media influences and conditions kids to think in a certain way. For example like you said grand theft auto conditions kids to think that killing its ok and that violence is ok as well. I think that video games defenetly shapes some people and kids characteristics. Alan do you think that children in Brave new world are allowed to play video games or not?

  3. I agree with Bryan. This is a great example of how the media influences our society, especially the younger generations. I don't think these sorts of video games should be available to the younger children because in the early stages of development, it is dangerous to expose a child to so much violence. All the violence conditions kids to believe violence is right and in the near future, we could potentially face a society full of nothing but violence. What do you think could be done to stop this sort of conditioning from causing permanent damage in our society?

  4. Bryan, Alan, and Cassandra, it is society's fault that allows children to play video games. For some reason, not enough people care if their children play violent video games. This is due to the fact nobody cares for one another. If anybody cared for anyone but themselves, their friends, and families, I would think we would have a less violent society.

Bryan, I wouldn't think they would be allowed to play video games. Video games keep you isolated from the real world and alone in your room or house. The BNW society promotes activities that help society. Video games can get addicting to the point where you don't leave house and you don't prove useful to society. You become just a useless couch potato and the society wouldn't want that.
